The Information Technology Department of FIEM, Kolkata has organized Code-it (A coding competition using C) under CodeExcellence of the Department on 26th April,24. The competition was organized by Prof. Subhasis Mitra and Prof. Debjyoti Basu . All students of the first year of the IT Department participated in the event. Ms. Kumkum Chakroborty and Ms. Jaita Chakroborty worked hard to support on the day of the event. Such events are organized to sharpen the coding skill of the students.

CodeExcellence
The Information Technology Department of FIEM organized CodEXcellence'23 on 30th and 31st October, a coding competition that showcased the Java programming skills of our 3rd-year students. The event was not just about competition but also about innovation, as our dedicated teachers meticulously assessed the students' work, offering valuable feedback that enhanced their learning experience. This competition served as a significant learning opportunity, allowing the students to refine their coding skills and problem-solving abilities. Looking ahead to CodEXcellence in 2024, we are excited about the potential and possibilities it holds for our future technologists and innovators, confident that our students will continue to excel and contribute to the ever-evolving world of technology.
Distribution of Certificates and Medals to the achievers in the year 2023
The software industry is currently fuelled by innovative coders and project-driven initiatives. Recognizing the significance of this, the Information Technology Department at Future Institute of Engineering and Management organized several impactful events this semester. Notably, Prastuti'23 focused on campus preparation for final-year students, Prakaushal'23 featured a project competition using Java for 3rd-year students, Prakaushal'23 also hosted a project competition utilizing Python for 2nd-year students, and CodEXcellence'23 cantered around a coding competition using Java for 3rd-year students. The culmination of these events took place on November 7th and 8th, where exceptional participants were acknowledged with medals and certificates. The department takes immense pride in discovering and nurturing promising talents, and the success of the winners serves as an inspiration for their peers, motivating them to excel in upcoming events.
5-day FDP on “Advancements in AI & ML: A Hands-on Approach”
Artificial Intelligence provides computers the ability to solve problems and learn and be proficient in visual perception, speech recognition, language translation, etc. Machine Learning is a subset of Artificial Intelligence that helps a computerized system to optimize resource usage or performance by using predictions and minimizing errors. Deep Learning is again a subset of Machine Learning that uses data processing techniques of the human brain.
The Departments of Information Technology and Computer Science Engineering (Data Science), Future Institute of Engineering and Management, organized a Faculty Development Programme in collaboration with International ‘Centre of Excellence’ for Data Science, AI and Futuristic Technologies, Dept. of Higher Education, Govt. of West Bengal on Advancements in AI & ML: A Hands-on Approach. The programme was held at Future Institute of Engineering and Management, Sonarpur, Kolkata- 700150 (FIEM Campus, Kolkata).
In this 5-day faculty development programme, participants learnt about the theoretical details of this domain. In the hands-on sessions, they practically used the algorithms and advanced technologies: generative AI, deep learning, computer vision, natural language processing etc.
The topics of the discussion were as follows:
- Introduction to the world of AI and Data Science
- Generative AI and Large Language Model
- Introduction to ML: Regression and Classification
- Generative AI, Retrieval Augmented Generation, Vector Database, Prompt Engineering
Hands on Practical Training was given on the following areas:
- Machine Learning Hands on
- Deep Learning Hands On
- Basic of Computer Vision Theory
- Basic of Natural Language Processing
- E-certificates were provided to the participants
The Inauguration and Lecture sessions were held at S.G. Hall, FBS Building, FIEM

Dikshant, 2024
Dikshant'24 was organized by the Department of Information Technology on the 15th of May,2024 to bid a warm goodbye to the students of batch 2020-2024.
Teachers and students assembled together on this day to bid farewell to the final year students who entrusted their education on our institution during the dark times brought to us by the COVID-19 outbreak of 2020. The seniors and juniors rejoiced together as we celebrated the pinnacle of a journey and the advent of a new era in the lives of the students of this very special batch. Each and everyone present on that day witnessed the 4 year long journey of these students comprising their struggles , quality time with each other, dedication and also their bonding with their teachers, juniors and the college as a whole. With all of our combined efforts hopefully we were able to remind them about the bonds they had formed , the memories they had created and the way they stood with each other through all the ups and downs. Reminding them all they had received from this college over these past 4 years. Memories they should cherish for the rest of their lives because fooling around would get a bit difficult on the new journey of life they are about to embark on. We heartily congratulate all of you for having overcome the rollercoaster ride of college life and wish you all the best for a successful, prosperous and happy life ahead.
The Department showed its gratitude towards of the final year students by presenting them with certificates and the enlightening words from our respected departmental teachers and our honourable Director sir and Principal sir. But what is farewell party without a little music . We engaged our dear seniors in fun games and lit up their mood with lights , dance and music. The program was highlighted by the wonderful performances of singing and dancing by the first, second and third year students. Kudos, to the students of all the years who participated in the event. It was the combined efforts of all of you that we were able to bid the final years the spectacular farewell they truly deserved. And lastly we would love to thank our refreshment partner for providing us with the delicacies.

On the sunlit morning of July 1st, 2023, the IT department at FIEM orchestrated a farewell party that would linger in the memories of final year students forever. The clock struck 11, and the sprawling venue was a canvas of vibrant colors and joyous anticipation.
The atmosphere buzzed with excitement, as final year students, bedecked in a mix of nostalgia and anticipation, congregated to celebrate the culmination of their academic journey. The IT department had left no stone unturned in ensuring that this farewell would be an event to remember. Strings of fairy lights danced merrily, casting a warm glow over the gathering. A stage adorned with flowers stood tall, ready to host a series of performances that promised to be both heartwarming and entertaining. The playlist, curated with care, would be a medley of tunes that carried the essence of parting and new beginnings.
As the event kicked off, heartfelt speeches resonated with the audience. Professors and mentors shared wisdom and well-wishes, reminding the students of the incredible potential that lay within them. Laughter and tears flowed freely, as memories were revisited and future ambitions shared. The games that followed were a testament to the creative genius of the IT department. From traditional favorites to innovative challenges, each game was a catalyst for camaraderie and spirited competition. Cheers and applause echoed as students enthusiastically participated, forging lasting bonds over friendly rivalries.
The highlight of the day, undoubtedly, was the talent showcase that unfolded on the stage. The students, with their diverse array of talents, took center stage, leaving the audience in awe. From musical performances that tugged at heartstrings to comedic acts that had everyone in splits, each act was a testament to the vibrant tapestry of skills within the graduating class. As the clock ticked on, the realization that this chapter was drawing to a close hung in the air. Yet, it was also a celebration of the promising journeys that awaited each student. The sentiment of 'goodbye for now' was accompanied by a chorus of 'see you soon' and 'best of luck.' As the farewell party came to a close, the sun cast a golden hue over the gathering. Dikshant' 23 was not just an event; it was a mosaic of emotions, a tapestry of shared experiences, and a celebration of the incredible potential that the future held. As students dispersed, hugs and promises to stay in touch filled the air. The IT department at FIEM had orchestrated a farewell that was not just a goodbye, but a launchpad into the next thrilling chapter of these young lives.
Prastuti: Online webinar for the students of IT Second Year
Ardent Computech Pvt. Ltd.'s recent online webinar, orchestrated by the IT department of FIEM for 2nd-year IT students, culminated in resounding success on December 7th, 2023. This illuminating session delved deep into the forefront of Recent Trends in the IT industry, offering invaluable insights from the CEO of Ardent Computech Mr. Rajmohan De Sarkar. Participants witnessed an engaging discourse on AI, cybersecurity, cloud computing, MongoDB and more, equipping them with cutting-edge knowledge crucial for their future careers. The interactive discussions and expert guidance left an indelible mark, empowering students to navigate the ever-evolving IT landscape with confidence.
Prastuti: Debate Competition for the students of IT 7th Semester
A Debate Competition was held on 1st December 2023 in the second half for the final year students as part of Prastuti’23 by the Information Technology Department of Future Institute of Engineering and Management. The topic of the debate was “Offline classes and labs are necessary in acquiring a degree in Engineering ''. The final-year students were informed about the topic 15 minutes before the commencement of the debate competition.
All the faculties of the department available at that time, attended the programme. Students slowly opened up and shared their logic with careful presentation. They tried to perform as much as possible. The topic made them enthusiastic to speak in support or against the motion.
Some of the students performed very well. Saurabh Patel stood first, Namrata Saha stood second, Tiasha Ghosh stood third. The better performers were identified. At the end of the event, the winners were given medals by the senior faculties of the department.
Prastuti: Online Alumni Meet held for the third year and final year students
An online alumni meet was held on November 10th, 2023 as part of Prastuti’23 for the Final year and 3rd-year students of the Information Technology Department of Future Institute of Engineering and Management. Few alumni of the department having diverse professional experiences, and placed in reputed companies in the Software Industry, spent more than two hours explaining campus preparation tips to their juniors. Their invaluable insights and success stories showed the path for the aspiring graduates, offering them a glimpse into the real-world dynamics of their respective industries.
All faculties of the IT Department attended the session. Many questions were asked to the alumni and these questions were answered with utmost care and willingness. Prof. Prosenjit Mukherjee, conducted the session very efficiently. He actively participated in the questionnaire section of the session and asked some very important and relevant questions. The session was very informative for all the students and the faculties present. The session acted as a bridge between classroom learning and the world of software professionals nurturing a deeper understanding of the skills and attributes sought after by prospective employers. The Department is willing to arrange more such online and offline sessions in the future.
Prastuti: Technical Quiz held on 6th October, 23 for the students of IT 7th Semester
The Information Technology Department of FIEM hosted an exhilarating and intellectually stimulating Technical Quiz Competition for final-year students of the department on 6th October, 23. The event aimed to challenge the students' knowledge and problem-solving skills in various aspects of information technology, serving as a platform to showcase their expertise and innovative thinking.
The event was structured into several rounds, each designed to test different dimensions of their technical acumen.
The competition commenced with a round consisting of multiple-choice questions covering a wide range of fundamental topics of Computer Science. The quiz was designed to evaluate the participants' foundational knowledge in areas such as programming languages, Operating System, Databases, Networking, and Cybersecurity. The Technical Quiz Competition concluded with the following results:

Prastuti 2022
Prastuti, a pre-placement program forB.Tech IT students of Future Institute ofEngineering and Management Sonarpur,was conducted on March 9th, 2022. Theprogram was aimed at preparing thestudents for their upcoming placementdrives and was organized by the facultymembers of the IT Department. Theprogram covered a wide range of topicssuch as Data Structure and Algorithm,DBMS, etc. technical skills along withcommunication skills to equip the studentswith the knowledge and tools required fortheir professional careers. The facultymembers shared their expertise andexperiences with the students, providingvaluable insights and guidance. Prastutiwas a great opportunity for the students tolearn and develop themselves for theirfuture careers.
Prakaushal for 6th Semester, 2024
A real life project development helps a student to prepare for campus recruitment process. Keeping this in mind, the Department of Information Technology, organized a project competition Prakaushal for the IT 6th Semester students in collaboration with the Institution’s Innovation Council of FIEM, Kolkata on 13th May, 2024. A “Client Server Application with a Data Store” was supposed to be developed in a team. The event was organized and conducted by all the faculties of the Information Technology Department. We thank all the respected mentors and specifically our Training and Placement Cell for inspiring us.
Prakaushal for the students of IT 3rd Semester
The Information Technology Department of FIEM recently organized a departmental Project Competition PRAKAUSAL'23 for 3rd Semester on 9th October, 2023 to celebrate the talent and innovation of students of the department. We were lucky to have the presence of our respected Principal Sir, Registrar Sir and the HoD of the CSE department among us. All the 2nd year participated in the project competition. The projects were developed using Python. The respected faculties of the department judged the projects very carefully. Their valuable insights and constructive feedback added an extra layer of educational depth to the competition. This Project Competition has worked as a learning platform for the students of 2nd year improving their technical knowledge and presentation skills. As we look forward to the next edition of Prakaushal, 2023, we remain excited about the incredible potential and the limitless possibilities that the future holds for our aspiring technologists and innovators.

Technical Seminar held on 13th May, 2024 for the students of IT Second Year
The Information Technology Department of FIEM, Kolkata organized an one hour technical seminar on “Real life Python integration with Django” in collaboration with Euphoria GenX on 13th May, 2024 for the students of IT 2nd Year. Python is widely used nowadays for various purposes. The said topic was elaborated in this session.

TThe two-day seminar on the Journey of theIT Profession and New Opportunities heldon 7th and 8th April 2022 was a hugesuccess. It was conducted by the facultyand students of the IT and ComputerApplication Department. On 7th April, thediscussion panel was conducted withseven highly-placed students, Prof TapasRay, HOD CS Dept, Prof Prosenit MukherjeeAsst Professor, IT Department and Prof Dr.Anirban Chakrabarty, HOD Dept. of CompApplication Dept. The entire program wasstreamed online, making it accessible to all.It was an amazing event to witness, givingus a glimpse into the future of the ITprofession.

AcharyaBandana 2023 was a remarkable Teachers' Day celebration and award ceremony at our institution on 5th September 2023. On this special day, we honored our dedicated educators for their unwavering commitment. The highlight of the event was the recognition of our top ten students, a testament to their hard work and perseverance. The top achievers were awarded prestigious Gold, Silver, and Bronze medals, symbolizing their outstanding performance. The ceremony was a fusion of gratitude and motivation, as the students' accomplishments inspired others to strive for excellence. AcharyaBandana 2023 served as a beautiful reminder of the profound impact teachers and motivated students can have on the world.
Workshop on Cyber Security, 2023
From July 15th to 18th, 2023, a pivotal three-day workshop on Awareness of Cyber Security and its Applications unfolded. The workshop was organised jointly by the IT department, CSE(DS) and CA departments. This event marked a significant stride in safeguarding digital landscapes. The plenary lecture, a crowning moment, was delivered by the eminent Padma Shri Dr. Bimal Kumar Roy, a distinguished figure from the Applied Statistical Unit at ISI, Kolkata. His insights illuminated the complex terrain of cyber security, inspiring attendees with a wealth of knowledge. The workshop provided a platform for experts and enthusiasts alike to exchange insights, fortifying our collective understanding of cyber resilience for a safer, more secure digital future.

In a recent milestone, the department organized a highly successful NIVT summer training program focused on machine learning, spanning a comprehensive 15-day curriculum. This initiative provided students with a hands-on learning experience, equipping them with practical skills in this cutting-edge field.
Beyond the academic sphere, the IT department showcased its sporting prowess by emerging victorious in the interdepartmental cricket competition. This not only reflects the camaraderie within the faculty but also emphasizes the importance of a balanced and well-rounded approach to education.

We are very proud to state that the students of Information Technology have come up with the publication of Srishti (Wall Magazine of the IT Department), 2024, the April Edition. We are very happy to share that students of the IT Department have worked hard to cover the theme for the Wall Magazine – Baisakh Festival, Id-Ul -Fitre and Good Friday. We thank all our mentors of FIEM for providing the opportunity to showcase the talents of our faculties and students of our department. Finally, we thank the departmental faculties and students for their cooperation, support and inspiration.
Srishti, October Edition, 13th October, 2023
Srishti, the wall magazine of the Information Technology Department has been inaugurated by our most honourable Executive Director Sir and Principal Sir of the Future Institute of Engineering and Management in the month of October. The magazine showcases the literary, painting, and photographic creativity of the students of the Department of Information Technology.
The students of the IT Department worked very hard to prepare and publish this magazine within a very short span of time. The true magic of the wall magazine lies in the collaboration between teachers and students. Faculties and students have worked hand in hand to create a colourful mosaic of thoughts and ideas in the form of this magazine.
This magazine works as a window to the heart of the students of our college, a place where knowledge, creativity, and sincerity meet.
In future, more such magazines will be published by the students of the Information Technology Department.
