Media is considered as the fourth pillar of a democracy and the mirror of the society. The importance of media in nation building, economic & social development and sustainable humanity is unquestionable, however a large section of the mass is still unaware of it due to lack of media literacy. The study of communication and media enables us to understand the world around us, from civic engagement to consumer behaviour – it prepares us to be future leaders and problem-solvers, and it challenges us to be curious and passionate critical thinkers. Media and communication studies are not a new discipline, it has travelled a long way and evolved into newer forms with print, radio, cinema, television and internet respectively. With the advent of technology, the traditional media has transformed into more complex yet intriguing convergent mediums for content creation and dissemination of information for the purpose of mass communication.
Today, media and entertainment industry is one of the fastest growing service sectors not only in India but across the globe. Introduction of Social media and various other cutting-edge technologies like OTT, Augmented Reality, Virtual Reality, animation and online gaming in combination with Artificial Intelligence (AI) have made media applications more fascinating and emerged as game-changers in people’s life as well as the business & commerce. The country's entertainment and media industry is expected to see a growth of 9.7 per cent annually in revenues to reach $73.6 billion by 2027, according to a PWC report. Evolving consumer preferences, increased internet access and emerging technologies are fast reshaping the Entertainment and Media (E&M) industry according to Price Waterhouse Coopers.
